Academy Report - May 2

Games: We played our first games a week ago. It was a new experience for most of us. The Academy format is very different from traditional game days. I’m very excited about the Academy. The emphasis is on individual improvement, not scoring points and winning. Every player on our team did a good job mixing it up with the Bozeman players. Unfortunately we missed our games this Saturday. Although the weather was fine in Livingston, I hear there was a full-on blizzard in Bozeman. We’ll try again next week.

Practice: In practice we’re working on dribbling moves. We have challenged each of our players to try at least one dribbling move to beat a defender every game. Madison P. got her very own dribbling move named after her. We’re also working on crisp, accurate passes. Peter G. and Rilyn P. won the passing contest in the snow on Thursday; but they will have some serious competition next week.

Hot Shots: Nick Z. was all over the place in practice on Tuesday: chasing down loose balls and making beautiful passes into space. Emily R. was a bundle of fiery energy at the games last Saturday. She had several of the other coaches asking, “Who was that masked ball bandit?”

Homework: Remember, Coach Matt has challenged you all to pull a ball onto your foot and balance it there for 3 seconds. There’s a prize waiting for those who can pull it off on Tuesday.
